There’s been a lot of chat about how we can make reading easier and more comfortable.
Some people prefer changing the font, size, or colour of the text or page and find that this makes reading more comfortable. You do you!
However, if you notice that words are jittering on the page, or wriggling, or generally having a party without you, contact your optometrist or Behavioural Optometrist and get your eyes thoroughly checked. Better safe than sorry!
Be aware that colour lenses may have a short life-span as the brain adapts to what it sees. Colour overlays tend to have a 6-month effectiveness window, before a slightly different colour is needed.
Anyway, back to reading.
Have you heard of bionic reading? It when the fist part of word is printed in bold to make anchoring easier. Many people find that this improves their tracking, and helps them to speed up their reading rate.
Some people love it, others hate it. Personally, it doesn’t work for me, but other Specialist Teachers love it! Again, you do you. Most browsers have extensions, and there are a lot of websites promoting it. Have a search, see what you think and let me know if it works for you!
There’s also Super Reading: https://superreading.com/
I love this and have been training as a Coach for its successor, Visual Reading (more to come!)
It trains the eyes’ movements (saccades) to take in more information in a structured way to help progress quickly through text while retaining what’s been read. All of the coaches and preliminary data has shown that student who practise for five minutes per day have made huge increases in their reading speed and ability to retain information.
If this is something you’d like to know more about, get in touch through the contact button.
More updates soon!
