As a kid, I would pretend that I was a teacher! In my games, I would teach the classics and stories of Greek mythology; I still love these stories today!
I used to organise plays for our parents and try to write novels and plays to share with my friends – I’ve always tried to inspire others to see the world through different eyes so we could understand ourselves better.
Becoming a teacher was my goal, and, although I side-stepped into photography for a while, I came back to learning and earned a Bachelor’s in English Language and Literature, then qualified as a teacher and SENDCO, before going on to gain two Master’s degrees in Education and Psychology. As part of my Education MA, I trained and qualified as a Specialist Teacher Assessor – trained to identify and diagnose dyslexia so that students could get the support they needed to succeed in school, university, and work.
I love learning, and I’m so glad that my job means I get to keep learning – I’m working on identifying and supporting dyscalculia!
Why travel with me?
As someone who has been teaching for nearly two decades, I firmly believe that effective communication is key to success. My goal is to inspire my students to embrace analytical challenges, offer unwavering support during their most challenging moments, and encourage them to step outside of their comfort zones and experience new things.
I hold certifications from the British Dyslexia Association and PATOSS, and I am an experienced and qualified English teacher. My background check through DBS has been cleared, and I possess a current Assessment Practicing Certificate that authorises me to conduct dyslexia assessments for people of all ages that can be used for support at schools, colleges, and universities.
As an educator, I am always eager to explore new teaching strategies that can help my students achieve their goals. In my classroom, I foster a supportive and safe learning environment where students can thrive and grow. I strongly believe that cultivating a culture of mutual respect and enjoyment is key to unlocking everyone’s potential. By putting my students’ needs and interests first, I am able to inspire them to take an active role in their education and embrace their learning journey with enthusiasm.
What do I do in my leisure time?
When I’m not in a classroom, I can usually be found curled up on a sofa reading a book or graphic novel, watching a Marvel movie, or playing RPGs! I’ve always loved books and video games – they help us explore different lives and different aspects of ourselves, as well as develop hand-eye coordination and empathy.
I also learn for pleasure: building my brain’s muscles so I’m prepared to support anyone! I write about my literacy journey here and get excited about learning and teaching over on Instagram and Facebook.
